Podcasting Adventures
Alex from Audibly Lost has been working on a Lost podcasting documentary called “Audibly Lost.” I know he’s been working on it like crazy for quite some time now and has driven around the country interviewing people involved in the Lost community. Jay & Jack were fortunate enough to be interviewed by Alex back in March after the 30 Hour Podcast and now they’re the subject of his first featurette from “Audibly Lost”! It also has Kris White, Ralph Apel, Natasha Fray, Axel Foley from Lost Mythos Podcast, Josh & Amanda from Lost Flashbacks Podcast, and a special “appearance” by Michael Emerson. Thank you, Alex!! I’m so excited to see the rest of the movie!

I really, really love with Ralph has to say about the finale party and friends coming together. Well said, dude. Tear.

So after Comic Con, Jay & I fostered one of Heather’s kittens for a night while we found her a home with my co-worker’s sister-in-law. This kitten was the runt of her litter & super tiny. She was absolutely adorable and actually really liked me (animals liking me better than Jay just doesn’t happen). She fell asleep in my arms that night. Poor Zoe had a temper tantrum over the kitten being there for a night & refused to come out of the man cave for the day. I felt really badly actually but it was only for a night, so we decided to just let her sulk and deal with it lol.
Here’s an idea of how small she was:

But perhaps the coolest thing was Jay & I taught her how to play Uzu on the iPad. She was fascinated by the iPad:

So anyway, this all leads into something, I promise. We didn’t want to get too attached to her, so we didn’t give her a name (her new owners named her Audrey). I did, however, go on a name meaning site and start looking up some names just to see what would be a nice name to suggest to her new mom. Idk, I like doing things like that. I got super involved in looking at different names and then looking up where my name, Jay’s, my sisters, Jay’s sisters, etc. fell in popularity over the last few years. I was looking at a list of the Top 1,000 names, too, for both boys and girls. I’m not one of those people who has all their baby names picked out years in advance, mainly because I think that’s bad luck to do that. But that’s just me.
The following exchange took place later on:
Me: “I like the name Jacob. That’s not a bad name.”
Jay: “Eehhh, Jacob? I don’t know. Could be too…I don’t know if I could use the name Jacob.”
Me: “Why not? Twilight fever won’t last forever. People won’t associate that Jacob with Twilight in like 5 years.”
Jay <Pause, incredulous look>: “I don’t care about Twilight.”
Me: “Then what’s the big deal?!”
Jay <slowly>: “Lost…?”
Me <Beat>: “OH YEAH!!”
So here’s my question. Since Jay’s got that whole Lost Podcast thing, does this mean that any Lost name is out of the picture for us to use in the future? I think that pets are one thing, but is it fair to subject our future children to a Lost name that we just happen to like when they’ll probably spend the rest of their lives avoiding Comic Con so people don’t go “You’re JAY’S kid?! And your name is Ben? How adorable! Smile creepy for us, little Ben! How’s Hurley doing, little Ben?” or “Hey, little Charlotte! Do you have a bloody nose? Would you like a chocolate bar?”
I think that’s why celebrities give their kids such f*cked up names. They have to go for a name that can never be associated with any project they’ve ever worked on or character they’ve ever played lol. Let’s face it: Jennifer Aniston could never have a kid named Rachel. So that’s what I’ve been wondering for the last week and a half. What do you think about it?

TV
Quiet morning at work today so I figured I’d try to keep up with the frequent blogging thing I’ve got going on right now. Last night, I started watching the 5th season of Supernatural that’s been saved up on the DVR since September. On Sunday night, Jay and I were finally able to catch up on the last few weeks of Chuck while Friday night was dedicated to The Office and 30 Rock. Basically, all these shows were backed up because of Lost but now that it’s finished, we’re free to watch whatever we want. I’ve noticed people asking each other over Twitter, Facebook, etc, “What do we watch now?” Soooo I came up with ten suggestions based on TV shows that I like and I’m totally open to some more that I missed or have never seen.
*Disclaimer for suggestions 2-10 & honorable mentions: Please keep in mind that these are MY suggestions and just because I like them, it doesn’t mean that they’re the end all, be all of TV shows to ‘replace’ Lost.*
Battlestar Galactica (The new one) - Trust me: Just do it. You won’t regret it. Some people are hooked from the first 10 minutes of the miniseries, others take a few episodes in the first season but stick it out and you’ll be so glad you did. It’s easily one of the best shows to ever air on TV.
- Veronica Mars - I’ve been touting VM for years but the first season really is awesome. It’s got mystery, humor, adventure and of course, Kristin Bell.
- Chuck - The 3rd season just finished and the show has changed so much from when it started. However, it was done in a way that you know it’s changing but it feels natural. One word: Jeffster.
- True Blood - Jay & I just put the second season in our Netflix queue and we can’t wait. I loved the first season so much that I bought all the books. I read the first one on the airplane back from London and I was advised to hold off on the rest until we see season 2. Therefore, I am doubly anxious to watch it. Warning: There’s A LOT of gratuitous sex so if private parts offend you, then you’re not going to like TB.
The X-Files - I would be a horrible Phile if I didn’t recommend that anyone who loves a bit of sci-fi to check out XF (or at least the first 6 seasons + first movie; I can’t condone the last 4 & 2nd movie). There’s conspiracy theories abound and some really great Monster-of-the-Week episodes that make for some really fantastic, classic TV.
- Bones - My newest obsession but if you’re into crime dramas with great characters then give it a shot. I was always against it because I never watched Buffy or Angel and assumed it would be FBI Agent Teen Heartthrob at your service. I’m glad I gave it a shot and I hope you are too!
- Dexter - Spoiler alert: Dexter is filled with a lot of gore. It’s also filled with awesome, so ignore all of the obvious moral protests like, “But he still kills people…” and dive right in.
Alias - Sydney Bristow is bad ass. There’s 5 seasons total but I strayed during the last season because it just got way too confusing. However, if you’re a JJ Abrams fan, then DEFINITELY give at least the first 2 seasons a shot.
- Supernatural - This was the Bones of last year. It’s not just a CW show. It’s got it’s own mythology and quirks & some compelling storylines. It also has Dean from Gilmore Girls.
- Psych - I know that Psych is not everyone’s type of show but it’s absolutely hilarious and thoroughly an all-around good time. PINEAPPLE!
Honorable Mentions:
-
Fringe - Jay & I stopped in the middle of Season 1 when my beloved Strider got sick and I was moving all at the same time. It was starting to get really good, we just didn’t have the energy to keep up with it. We hear it’s gotten sick nasty awesome right now, so we’re definitely going to try to watch Seasons 1 & 2 before Comic Con.
- 24 - Again, this is a show that fell a lot in later seasons but Seasons 1, 4 and 5 were really entertaining. At the very least, give Season 1 a shot and make sure you have a full day cleared because it’s that insane that you won’t want to stop watching.
Well, those are my suggestions. I’m sure that I’m missing some and there’s plenty out there that I’ve never watched, so if you’ve got anything to add, the floor is yours.

Jay Glatfelter,
Lost
Things that are awesome about a day that was not so awesome:
The Lost Podcast Music, Vol. I: 2005-2007 is now for sale on iTunes!!! Link below. Go buy it if you’re a Jay and Jack fan because mama wants a nice honeymoon! (Just kidding, I probably will see a small amount of that money in the form of a bottle of wine or a visit to the Cheesecake Factory - I’m a simple creature who likes food and spirits.) Anyway, go check it out: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-lost-podcast-music-vol/id373769072
- Jay and Jack were featured in another article. This time it was the LA Times. Here’s the link: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2010/05/lost-fans-this-one-is-for-you-and-about-you.html
- Alex aka @audiblylost got to ask a question during the Times Talk event with Damon Lindeloff, Carlton Cuse, Michael Emerson and Jorge Garcia. Jay and I went loudly, “HEY IT’S ALEX!! OH MY GODDDD!!!” when we saw him. He asked the last question of the night and he represented the podcasting community, which was sick nasty. Even if he hadn’t done that, it was still so awesome. If you haven’t seen Alex’s trailer for the Lost podcasting documentary he is working on, click here to check it out: http://vimeo.com/11838904

PostSecret,
Weekend
I do have a real blog post coming but I keep getting lazy and writing like 3 sentences then doing other things like watching “Bones” or playing with Zoe. Oops. But now I’m all done with “Bones” so I guess I don’t have an excuse. Jay, my work friend Josh, and I went to see Kaki King play at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro the other night. All I can really say is, “Damn. She’s talented.” Jay’s got all the pictures and videos on his computer, so he’ll post them up on Facebook and all that jazz. Seriously though if Kaki King ever comes around to your area and you’re musically inclined, totally check her out. I spent yesterday and today laying out in the sun by the pool to prepare for summer. Woot!
Anyways, it’s Sunday and that means I checked out PostSecret. This postcard made me laugh heartily:

‘Nuff said.

Here are a third set of items for the auction to raise money for Autism Speaks. The Dharma Barracks poster was donated by a Jay and Jack listener named Brett & it’s pretty B-A. These items will only be up for 5 days, ending when the first set of items are over:
I think this is the final set of items to go up, so tomorrow I’ll go back to boring blogs about life. Maybe I’ll throw in a wedding date one of these days…

Friday, Friday, Friday. I woke up on Friday, January 29 (our 2.5 yr anniversary!) at 6am. Why? Well other than my body thinking it was 11am, Clif’s phone kept making blooping noises because it was 1) Charged up and 2) getting text messages. Then at around 6:30am, his phone rang. He answered it and it was his father and he had a full out conversation with him at 6:30am. Honestly, I know that Jay got annoyed by it and talked about it on the Jay & Jack Show but it wasn’t that bad for me. I didn’t want to waste any of the day sleeping in.
I made Jay get up around 7:15am and we ended up going for a walk on the beach. We walked down one way on the beach and then back along the street. On the way back, I saw the hotel that my family had stayed in the first time we went to Hawaii, back when I was 15 or 16, the Moana Surfrider. Oh yeah and we also came across some pretty awesome leis in an ABC store…

Walking on the beach

The hotel that my family stayed at 10 years ago

My kind of lei…
So upon returning to the hotel, it was around 8:15am and we decided to go in the totally super awesome pool at the hotel. Around 8:30am, we saw Clif on the balcony of our hotel room and waved to him. I guess he was shouting down to us a little too loudly because that’s when Jack woke up and went onto the balcony to investigate. Here’s the picture Clif took while he was yelling down to us in the pool. You can barely see us, but we’re in there lol.

So we went back upstairs around 9:15am. In the interest of people want to actually continue reading this, I’ll speed it up a little bit. We gathered Clif and went into Jack & Cyndi’s room, where I did my whole “omg-I’m-so-excited-yaayyyy!” speale and everyone who doesn’t like to have fun in life looked like they wanted to kill me. Soon after, we all showered and got ready. Jack, Jay, Clif & I had not eaten breakfast yet. Jay, Clif & I decided to walk down to a local Jack in the Box and get something light to hold us over.
We had plans with Beth to give us an unofficial “Lost Tour”. We had to meet her on the set at noon. The set was on the North Shore, which was literally the furthest point from where our hotel was. It would take an hour to get there, so we left around 11am. I only had one of those Breakfast Jack thingys in my stomach. We figured that we’d get lunch on the North Shore with Beth after she finished showing us some famous filming locations. So we met up with Michael Purcell of Global Cash Card and hopped into a little rental car.
Well [pause]. Since Jay didn’t know where he was going and was relying on the GPS on Clif’s iPhone to get us to the meeting point, it took us well over an hour to get there. We saw the Grass Skirt Productions signs and turned into the lot. The guys doing security asked us if we were here for Lost and we told them yes and got in with no problem. We see dudes walking around in Others garb. Beth walks over to the car and Cyndi & Jack ask her if they can use the restroom. Michael’s face lights up and he follows them. This entire time, Clif is lecturing Jay & myself about the proper etiquette for being on the set of a TV show. You know, I may be loud and annoying in my every day life but I know how to be on best behavior when I want to be. I start nagging the hell out of Jay for us to catch up to them because I did have to pee pretty badly and I didn’t want to be stuck with professor-dad Clif over there. Jay doesn’t want to “get in trouble” so he resists until Beth waves us over.
We walk around what I think was the costume trailer and come across another set of trailers. My eyesight makes a total beeline to none other than Josh Holloway! Internal monologue: “Uh whaaatttt?!” In an attempt to try not to stare, I turn to face Jack. He mutters to me, “He’s talking to Matthew Fox!” Internal monologue: “flkajdflaudfahfOMFGokdafhia. Be cool. Go pee.” Then I remember my full bladder and natural instinct kicks in and I ask where the bathroom was. I think at this point, it was either Jack or Cyndi who quietly exclaim, “I just walked past Evangeline Lilly!” I nod and walk towards where Beth is motioning the bathroom is.
As I walk by Beth, I see she’s talking to Evangeline Lilly in her trailer but this time, I’m on a mission. I did my business (#1, don’t get any ideas) in Jorge’s trailer and return to the group. At this point, Evangeline Lilly is now outside talking to Josh Holloway and Matthew Fox. I must say that she really is quite a beautiful woman. Oh hell, everyone on that show is attractive.
End of fangirl geek-out paragraph. Start of just plan geek-out section.
So we set off with Beth (and since we all keep talking about Beth but never actually saying who she is, I should probably just clear up that Beth is Jorge Garcia’s lovely girlfriend). Since it took so long to get to the North Shore and we had to leave by a certain time to get back for the ABC press mixer, we didn’t have as much time as we would have liked for the tour. But we made the best of it!
We hit up the camp that serves as the set for New Otherton:

And saw Benjamin Linus’s house:

And the beach where the filmed the pilot, Aljira 316 crash, etc:

Moving along from there, we went to the site where they keep the wreckage from Oceanic 815 and the little plane that Yemi’s body was on:

Oh and did I mention that Jay & I found pieces of the plane that had blown outside the fence? HA! 5 years ago when I stood in the middle of the DVD section of Wal-Mart trying to decide whether or not to buy Season 1 of Lost, I definitely never would have imaged that I’d be actually holding a broken piece of that set in my hand someday…

Next up, we made a quick stop at the set where young Mr. Eko’s flashback took place - the one where the kids were playing soccer.

On the way back to dropping Beth off on set, we stopped at the tree where Kate buried the NKOTB lunchbox. I wished we could’ve gotten closer to it because I wanted to climb it lol.

We dropped Beth back off - and no, there weren’t any more sightings because the actors were all off filming - and then began the long drive back to Waikiki. Clif got us a little bit lost and of course then his phone died BUT we managed to get back based on pure awesomeness and a good sense of direction.
Well, I think I’ve lived up to this blog’s name and rambled on long enough. Next up: Friday evening (well, what I can remember from it…).
P.S. Beth has a children’s book coming out in the spring. You can find it on Amazon.com by clicking here.
