Jay & Jack Featurette on “Audibly Lost”

Posted by Colleen on Aug 24, 2010 in Jay Glatfelter, Lost, Podcasting Adventures

Alex from Audibly Lost has been working on a Lost podcasting documentary called “Audibly Lost.” I know he’s been working on it like crazy for quite some time now and has driven around the country interviewing people involved in the Lost community. Jay & Jack were fortunate enough to be interviewed by Alex back in March after the 30 Hour Podcast and now they’re the subject of his first featurette from “Audibly Lost”! It also has Kris White, Ralph Apel, Natasha Fray, Axel Foley from Lost Mythos Podcast, Josh & Amanda from Lost Flashbacks Podcast, and a special “appearance” by Michael Emerson. Thank you, Alex!! I’m so excited to see the rest of the movie!

An “Audibly Lost” featurette: Jay and Jack from Audibly Lost on Vimeo.

I really, really love with Ralph has to say about the finale party and friends coming together. Well said, dude. Tear.

‘Lost’ Podcasting Downfall: The Great Name Debate

Posted by Colleen on Aug 16, 2010 in Jay Glatfelter, Lost, Ramble/Ponder/Rant, Story time, Zoe

So after Comic Con, Jay & I fostered one of Heather’s kittens for a night while we found her a home with my co-worker’s sister-in-law.  This kitten was the runt of her litter & super tiny.  She was absolutely adorable and actually really liked me (animals liking me better than Jay just doesn’t happen).  She fell asleep in my arms that night.  Poor Zoe had a temper tantrum over the kitten being there for a night & refused to come out of the man cave for the day.  I felt really badly actually but it was only for a night, so we decided to just let her sulk and deal with it lol.

Here’s an idea of how small she was:

kitten2

kitten3

But perhaps the coolest thing was Jay & I taught her how to play Uzu on the iPad.  She was fascinated by the iPad:

kitten4

So anyway, this all leads into something, I promise.  We didn’t want to get too attached to her, so we didn’t give her a name (her new owners named her Audrey).  I did, however, go on a name meaning site and start looking up some names just to see what would be a nice name to suggest to her new mom.  Idk, I like doing things like that.  I got super involved in looking at different names and then looking up where my name, Jay’s, my sisters, Jay’s sisters, etc. fell in popularity over the last few years.  I was looking at a list of the Top 1,000 names, too, for both boys and girls.  I’m not one of those people who has all their baby names picked out years in advance, mainly because I think that’s bad luck to do that.  But that’s just me.

The following exchange took place later on:

Me: “I like the name Jacob.  That’s not a bad name.”

Jay: “Eehhh, Jacob? I don’t know.  Could be too…I don’t know if I could use the name Jacob.”

Me: “Why not? Twilight fever won’t last forever.  People won’t associate that Jacob with Twilight in like 5 years.”

Jay <Pause, incredulous look>: “I don’t care about Twilight.”

Me: “Then what’s the big deal?!”

Jay <slowly>: “Lost…?”

Me <Beat>: “OH YEAH!!”

So here’s my question.  Since Jay’s got that whole Lost Podcast thing, does this mean that any Lost name is out of the picture for us to use in the future?  I think that pets are one thing, but is it fair to subject our future children to a Lost name that we just happen to like when they’ll probably spend the rest of their lives avoiding Comic Con so people don’t go “You’re JAY’S kid?! And your name is Ben?  How adorable!  Smile creepy for us, little Ben!  How’s Hurley doing, little Ben?” or “Hey, little Charlotte! Do you have a bloody nose? Would you like a chocolate bar?”

I think that’s why celebrities give their kids such f*cked up names.  They have to go for a name that can never be associated with any project they’ve ever worked on or character they’ve ever played lol.  Let’s face it: Jennifer Aniston could never have a kid named Rachel.  So that’s what I’ve been wondering for the last week and a half.  What do you think about it?

“It was all started by a mouse.”

Posted by Colleen on Aug 13, 2010 in Family, Good times, Jay Glatfelter

So the day after Comic Con was over, I went with Jay’s family to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.  I’d only ever been to Disneyland once before in 2008 when Jay & I celebrated our first anniversary.  We were at the park from 8am until after midnight or in layman’s terms, “we opened and we closed it.”  I had the BEST time.  I <3 Disneyland and California Adventure.

We started off at Space Mountain.  Hardly any line since we were there so early.  It was awesome. as evidenced:

disneyland1

disneyland2

Next we hit up Pirates of the Caribbean (which made me want to watch the movie really badly), the Haunted Mansion (made me want to burn the movie), Indiana Jones, Thunder Mountain Railroad (it was just as fun as I remembered it but I don’t remember getting banged up so badly last time!) and one of my favorites, Splash Mountain.  Thunder Mountain, California Screamin’ and Pirates of the Caribbean were the only ones that we were lucky enough to go on twice.  Those are 3 of my 4 favorites (the last one being Tower of Terror woot!) so I was thrilled.

Naturally, I had to make sure that we took a picture in front of Cinderella’s Castle.  And by “we” I mean me, Jay & the person responsible for us meeting in the first place :)  P.S. That’s my shirt from the Chuck panel at Comic Con.

Splash Mountain, the first time:

California Screamin’ - the first time:

Group shot.  Yikes, why am I not looking at the camera?!

By the California Adventure letters:

We were lucky to be able to get to every major ride by the early afternoon.  I did learn - or rather reaffirm - one thing: that I was not meant to be a cop.  We all did the two Toy Story rides, where you shoot at things and get points, and I finished in last place both times!  I thought I was doing good because I only made shots when I felt I had it but yeah, that was not the right strategy for a freaking amusement park game!  It was SO embarrassing to do so badly.  [Uncle Lou, if you are reading this, I'm sorry!  I should've gone to the shooting range with you & Matt back in the day!]

So we finished off the night by watching the World of Color show.  Wow, it’s really spectacular.  I definitely recommend it if you’re there.  I envy people like Ralph who live right down the road from it.  Then again, I used to live 15 minutes from and work at Splish Splash which everyone I met in college & beyond was in envy of & I had a lot of “WTF crazy?!”   Anyways, I can’t wait til the next time we go back, though I think it should be the day before Comic Con starts, when there’s no blisters or overflowing toilets to slow you down haha.

Oh - quick question for all 6 of you out there - which Disney park do you like best and what’s your favorite ride?  I’d have to say Disneyland and California Screamin’ for me.

Poolside Blogging

Posted by Colleen on Jul 4, 2010 in Good times, Jay Glatfelter, Sara Arden, TV, Weekend, iPad

So I’m blogging from my apartment complex’s pool right now. Jay and I decided yesterday to invite a few friends over to bbq for the 4th of July since this was the first year I’ve ever not had plans. Usually I’d go to my great aunt and great uncle’s house for the best family 4th of July party ever and go spend some quality time at the Bing family party but since I’m spending my first 4th in Raleigh (last year we drove up to NY), I didn’t really have any plans. So now I’m staking out a table, grill & lounge chairs two hours early while Jay prepares his world famous “Jaygers”. I’m literally the only one here so I feel kinda silly and pretty bored lol. I was supposed to go swimming at the gym at 9am but those plans got messed up when we had the brilliant idea to save a spot amidst the fierce crowds of the pool. Yeah, good plan Jay and Colleen. Meh.

At least I’m still so slow with the iPad touch screen that it took me 15 damn minutes to poke out that last paragraph lol.

So while I wait for Clif, Sara, TJ and Kristin to arrive, I’ll run down what’s been going on. Jay & I finished the 2nd season of True Blood and started the 3rd. We are also trying to download season 4 of Dexter so we can watch that before Comic Con too. TB 2 was pretty awesome and by “awesome” I mean “Alexander Sarsgaard or however you spell his last name is hot and good choice Alan Ball giving him more screen time.” I would like to see a season where Tara isn’t acting crazy though bc I liked her a lot in season 1 and I’m super excited for the Sam storyline they’re setting up with his family (keep in mind that we’ve only seen the first ep of 3 so far so no spoilers).

I went to the beach with Sara and Kristin yesterday. We left at 7:30am to try to avoid the crowd at Wrightsville Beach but by 9:45am when we finally got there, parking was already nonexistent and douche bags were already out in full force. We drove around for 45 minutes and still no parking which sucked. We did get a spot at long last only to have some giant asshole come up to Sara and start screaming at her to “get out of that spot” and “leave” so he could have it. It was a public parking spot but in front of someone’s house that he must’ve known & been told he could park there. I was all for saying “fuck you, we got here first” but with crazy people, who knows so we left. We were so angry after that exchange that we decided to drive down to Carolina Beach and test our luck there. That luckily worked out way better for us and we had a fabulous time. Although I was wearing a strapless bikini top with string ties on the bottom and unfortunately I got slammed by a wave and had several, shall we say, wardrobe malfunctions. I pulled the top up quick enough for only Sara to get a good view and was relieved until I realized a split second later that all was definitely NOT right. Somehow the bow had come untied. Oh but not only untied but completely come undone. It fed thru a little tube of fabric - like the strings in a hoodie - and the knot that stopped it also came undone so i couldn’t even do a quick fix. I held myself together/up and did a small walk of shame out of the ocean. I’m glad that again, Sara was the only one who saw anything and it wasn’t the front lol. Kristin was a rockstar and able to fix it after about 15 minutes of trying. So that’s my embarrassing oops moment of the day!

Ok, my wrist hurts from my ghetto way of typing & Jay should be here soon to relieve me so I can get myself together for a half hour before they arrive. I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July or if you’re not American, a wonderful Sunday!

Three Cheers for iPads!

Posted by Colleen on Jun 13, 2010 in Announcement, Jay Glatfelter, Picture Post, Wedding stuff, Zoe

Jay and I got iPads on Friday!!  Thanks to the very generous Jim for sending them to us as wedding presents.  We truly cannot thank you enough, Jim.  This was truly one of the nicest, sweetest, and most awesome things that anyone has ever done for us.  Thank you, you totally rock dude!

The reason I’m finally now making this post now, on Sunday night, is because I’ve been completely distracted by trying to figure out the iPad.  It’s awesome, by the way.  It should come as no surprise to anyone that Jay’s had his iPad set up planned since it was announced that they existed, haha.  I’m fairly certain that within 20 minutes of opening them, Jay had his completely set up.  I downloaded a bunch of apps, but I really need some suggestions on which apps I should try out.  Definitely leave me your recommendations in the comments section if you feel like it!  Right now, I have the iBooks, the Kindle, Solitaire, FreeCell, Weather Channel, Netflix, USA Today, Jumbo Calculator, Craigslist Pro, a really cool one called Color Splash, ABC Player, Betty Crocker Cookbook, GTalk, Wikipanion, Huffington Post, Twitterrific, and Pandora.  So basically, I have a rundown of all of the top apps that appear on the main page of the Apple Apps Store, lol.

I feel as though this is a callback to when I first got my iPod for Christmas 2005 and I spent January 2006 discovering PODCASTS!  We all know how that little discovery ended up.  This is cool, it’s like I’m exploring new territory all over again.  Again, suggestions welcome :D

Of course, it wouldn’t be a blog post by yours truly if I didn’t have a zillion cheesy pictures documenting everything.  So here goes:

As Jay pulls out the card, Zoe eyes her newest potential addition to the box-fort Jay made her.

ipads2

His and hers, yo.

ipads3

YAY!

And in the aftermath, a lonely kitty searches for something to play in, knowing she’s going to be ignored for the next two days…

An Evening with Chef Jay

Posted by Colleen on May 30, 2010 in Jay Glatfelter, Picture Post, Weekend

One of the things that most people don’t know about Jay is that he loves to cook and create his own dinners.  His best creation to date is “Jay-gers,” which are awesomely delicious stuffed hamburgers.  He also makes superb chicken-dish creations too if you prefer chicken to beef.  Last night, Jay made his newest burger creation for me and Clif, which he dubbed the “Anti-Edward.”  It has something to do with the crazy amount of garlic that the burger involves, I guess.

Anyway, after the Jay-ger, this is the second best burger Jay makes.  I figured I’d document the cooking process from start to finish.  There’s a very big reason I rarely ever eat dessert and it has nothing to do with diet purposes.  It has everything to do with reasons like I ate two of the Anti-Edward last night and was too full to eat anything else.  I wish we had a big enough place for Jay to cook for everyone reading this right now (that’s right! All 6 of you ;) lol).  So here’s in layman’s terms the basic way to make the Anti-Edward:

jay-cooking-dinner1

Shape the ground beef into patties (duh).  Note the Lysol wipes in the background indicating that you should start on a clean surface.

jay-cooking-dinner2

Olive oil.

jay-cooking-dinner3

Add garlic salt. Lots of garlic salt.

jay-cooking-dinner4

Flip!

jay-cooking-dinner5

Jay really likes using olive oil…

jay-cooking-dinner6

Great Value Texas Toast.  Trust me, it may be from Wal-Mart the best brand.

jay-cooking-dinner7

Add cheese.  This is cheddar but I tend to prefer American or Monterey (or Pepper) Jack.

jay-cooking-dinner8

Put ‘em together and whadda ya get?

jay-cooking-dinner9

The Anti-Edward.

jay-cooking-dinner10

Add some of the necessary dinner accessories.

jay-cooking-dinner11

And finally, an evening with Chef Jay is never complete until he makes you play a board game.  My favorite is Blokus or Sorry! but last night’s choice was Jumanji.

“We’re very close to the end, Hugo.”

Posted by Colleen on May 22, 2010 in Jay Glatfelter, Lost

So here I sit, about to leave for Los Angeles for Jay and Jack’s LOST Finale Party at the Orpheum on May 23, 2010.  This past week has been such a whirlwind for me and it’s not even reached a climax yet.

So now I sit here and I’m supposed to be on a flight to LA X right now.  Am I? NO.  I am at home in Raleigh with Jay and Clif.  Our flight was delayed.  Oh WAIT!  Not “delayed” but rather a “your flight is so delayed that you will miss your connecting flight and therefore be stuck in Atlanta overnight” situation.  So we were told that our “option” was staying at home in Raleigh overnight and to be rescheduled until 6:40am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.

I am so disappointed, so upset, so tired.  I have been waiting 5 months for this and my bad airline luck happened yet a-f*cking-gain.  Not to complain, but the last 16 days have SUCKED.  Murphy’s Law X the Smoke Monster.  Yeah, little things like my laptop being fixed quickly were nice but it was still at a $300 loss that never should have happened.

Anyway.  I started this blog before we left for a reason.  I stopped a paragraph in because we had to leave lol but I did have something to say.

Lost is almost over.  Wow, has a television show CHANGED MY LIFE.  I would not have Jay.  I would not be friends with Clif and Kolkie and Chris in Boston and Rob and Jana and everyone else.  The last week has been such a whirlwind.  I left on 24 hours notice last Saturday, May 15 to go home to attend funeral services for my aunt Carol and then returned home immediately following the burial at the cemetery on Wednesday.  Talk about transition.  Bagpipes playing “Amazing Grace” to “Flight 384 is departing from gate A2 in 30 minutes” all within 15 minutes.  No time to process, regroup or sleep.  I feel like it was an entire different time/universe.  Often times over the last week, I have felt like I’m ‘that rambling girl’ in the corner who just talks because she is so overtired that she has nothing to do but let the verbal diarrhea flow.  I am so terrified I’ll do that in LA tomorrow night at Jay and Jack’s meet-up because I will be SO exhausted.

So this is it.  It’s going to be gone soon.  We are ‘very close to the end’ now.  How strange.  I feel such a sense of loss.  This entire last 8 days has been a loss.  When I first became involved in the Lost community, it was because of MetroBuzz, my very first podcast - a podcast that I miss doing very much.  I joined the Jay and Jack forums because of the Ramblecast.  I wanted to vote on something and the only way you could do so was if you joined the message boards to vote.  That was November 2006, I believe.  MetroBuzz stared in January 2007 and in April 2009, I was presented the opportunity to meet Jay.  I had listened to the Lost Podcast with Jay and Jack since February 2006, so I wasn’t a total J&J newbie.  We met and it was history.  However, we wouldn’t have had the chance to be introduced if not for Lost.

And for me, that is really all I need to know.

I liked “Across the Sea” and for the most part the other polarizing episodes (even “What Kate Did”).  Why?  Because of how much of my life has changed because of a damn TV show.  I am a cliche, but I am a fortunate cliche.  I am not going to “sugar coat” (HELLO HAVE YOU MET ME) but I am not going to be ungrateful.

But we are very close to the end now.  48 hours to go.  How strange.  It’s like the excitement of opening a present on Christmas morning mixed with the anticipation of waiting for a loved one to die (sorry, relating this to real life) all in one.  It is the end and the beginning.  For me, it was a blessing.

I have spent a great amount of time since tickets for this event went on sale March 26, 2010 at 10am PST trying to help people get tickets because I want everyone to have a chance to partake in this final experience because I feel that it is a journey that we have all gone on together.  I really hope that I can do that for people despite being so close to the end.

Even here as we are very close to the end, I truly hope that it’s not as close as it seems.

Silver Lining

Posted by Colleen on May 21, 2010 in Jay Glatfelter, Lost

Things that are awesome about a day that was not so awesome:

  • lost-musicvol1-proofThe Lost Podcast Music, Vol. I: 2005-2007 is now for sale on iTunes!!!  Link below.  Go buy it if you’re a Jay and Jack fan because mama wants a nice honeymoon! (Just kidding, I probably will see a small amount of that money in the form of a bottle of wine or a visit to the Cheesecake Factory - I’m a simple creature who likes food and spirits.)  Anyway, go check it out: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-lost-podcast-music-vol/id373769072
  • Jay and Jack were featured in another article.  This time it was the LA Times.  Here’s the link: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2010/05/lost-fans-this-one-is-for-you-and-about-you.html
  • Alex aka @audiblylost got to ask a question during the Times Talk event with Damon Lindeloff, Carlton Cuse, Michael Emerson and Jorge Garcia.  Jay and I went loudly, “HEY IT’S ALEX!! OH MY GODDDD!!!” when we saw him.  He asked the last question of the night and he represented the podcasting community, which was sick nasty.  Even if he hadn’t done that, it was still so awesome.  If you haven’t seen Alex’s trailer for the Lost podcasting documentary he is working on, click here to check it out: http://vimeo.com/11838904
