Posted by Colleen on Jun 28, 2010 in Harry Potter, Movies

I never like/watch the movies when they’re in theaters but I may have to make an exception:

The first Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows looks really awesome.

Awesome News of the Week

Posted by Colleen on Jun 11, 2010 in Airline Adventures, Announcement, Family, Harry Potter

I got halfway through a post on Monday about our canceled JetBlue flight back home from NY on Sunday but decided I’ve had enough of airplane drama posts for the moment.  So long story short: Our 4:30pm flight was canceled at 10:30am, I missed the phone call/emails because I was having the BEST nap of my entire life, and by the time I woke up and saw we were canceled around 12:45pm, they couldn’t rebook us on any other flights.  Whether or not this is because the other flights were sold out to begin with or what, I don’t know.  JetBlue doesn’t work with any other airlines so it was either fly out Monday and get back at 2pm, rent a car and drive the 10 hours back to Raleigh or buy tickets on another airline yet again.  Flying out Monday was out of the question.  The owner of my company was coming in at 8:30am and it’s only two of us in the office on Mondays anyway.  Plus, I’ve missed way too much work lately (funeral then LA) so I really can’t miss anymore.  Renting a car was probably cheapest but the least desirable experience ever and on very little sleep, driving back was the devil.  So we decided to take the JetBlue refund and go buy tickets on Southwest for the day.  I think in the end when all is said and done, we’ll only be out about $300 which also kinda sucks given all of the other shit we owe money for (see previous posts if you really care), all of which is totally travel related.  I’m just going to give a big UGH and then move on to the awesome news of the week.

Guess where I’m going sometime before the end of 2010, bitches:

05_Flatbed_WEB - MAY

That’s right!  My sister Katelyn won an all expenses paid trip to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, FL!!  She won 4 tickets - free hotel (Hard Rock Orlando woot), free airfare (do not comprehend), and 3-day passes to WWoHP and Universal Studios!  She won it through a radio station contest, which is crazy.  It’s also the second time she’s won something over the radio so now you all know the answer to “Why do you never have any luck, Colleen?”  It’s because Katelyn got all of the luck in the family, lol.

Anyway, she’s taking me, Christie, and Jeremiah #2.  Weekend is TBD.  Hopefully Jay can maybe come to hang out though it’s going to be too expensive for him to come to both parks with us and if I’m flying anywhere, I have to make the assumption that I’m somehow going to end up in more debt.  I’m so excited!  I really thought it’d be years before I ever got to go to there.  So YAY for something else to add onto 2010, the year of awesome!

P.S. I need a project.  Now that the Lost Finale Party is over, I feel bored and useless again.  Maybe I can organize something for Comic Con or something.  I don’t know.  I don’t do well with sitting still for long periods of time.  I was thinking of writing some kind of book or something about my airline experiences but then I realize I’ve given them all away on my blog and who wants to hear someone bitch about how much LaGuardia sucks for the 30th straight page?

Be Still My Geeking Heart

Posted by Colleen on Feb 17, 2010 in Adventure, Harry Potter, Picture Post

Guess where I went today?

platform9andthreefourths

Squeeeeee!  Platform 9 3/4 from Harry Potter! After the changing of the Guard (kinda interesting but kinda boring, I don’t know) and Westminster Abbey (really, really awesome), we went up to King’s Cross Station and tried to go to Hogwarts, ha.  Yay!

P.S. Ignore my sneakers; after the first two days of walking around in boots, my feed, legs and knees rebelled so now it’s sneakers for this girl lol

Dumbledore’s a Cover Boy

Posted by Colleen on Oct 25, 2007 in Harry Potter
I know that I haven’t been around here in ages and now I keep getting harrassed to update. I don’t think I’ve really posted since July, and a crapload has been going on. I’ve got a ton of work to do right now and I’m going to visit Jay in NC tomorrow, BUT I promise to play here more often cause I’ve accumulated lots of fun stuff recently. I actually wrote a whole post up about the Joe Torre/Yankees crap, but then decided against posting it because it helped me get it out of my system haha. But anyway, I’m gonna do a total cop out for now. At least it’s funny…
The people at Best Week Ever are genius:

For the record, I think that J.K. Rowling’s announcement was awesome. Yeah, so what, Dumbledore’s gay? It doesn’t change the story, it doesn’t distract from it (I don’t think so at least), and I think that when people say, “Oh well, it doesn’t matter that he’s gay, what’s the big deal?”, that statement in itself IS the big deal. Time will tell if in the long run, it has an impact on literature or not, or whether or not society can handle a popular, powerful, beloved fictional character being a homosexual. Regardless, I think it’s a very positive message she’s sending to fans. Let’s discuss it, if you are so inclined.

Related: I came across this article the other day, which gave me a chuckle. It’s 7 clues that we should have picked up on that showed Dumbledore’s sexual preference.

Anyway, shoutout to McSherry because I know she’s the only one who’ll actually read this :) I’ll be baaaaack!

NYC Christmas Fiestas & Harry Potter = SO Fetch

I actually had 2 Saturdays off in a row, which for a Dec. in retail is unheard of. I need a real job where I can have Sats off all the time. But enough of the pity party. Last Sat (Dec 2), I went to Julie & Courtney’s Christmas par-tay, all the way in Upper Bumblefuck, Manhattan. Actually, it was a really nice area; I’d totally, totally consider living there if it wasn’t so freaking far. I think they’re on 210th St or something? It was 5 blocks from the Bronx border, at the Dyckman stop on the subway. Julia met me at Penn & we rode the 45-min ride together. Their apartment is really cute, the party was fun; I’m really glad that I went. Anthony came with Amanda Nietzel, as did Matt Hittenmark & all of their old housemates. Good times :). Matero & Eddie drove in & Shawn Lynch came, but they got there after I’d left.
Of course, I was slightly buzzing when I left, so I missed the subway & subsequently missed the train I wanted to take back to Hicksville. (I was completely fine by the time I got to my car since it was 2 hours after I left the party, though, I promise.) All of the cousins on my mom’s side had gotten together that night (there’s 12 including my mom, aunt & uncle). By the time I got to Syosset & called my mom, they were all finishing up. I decided to just go home & go to a party all the way in fucking Mastic with Tricia. After driving around in circles, we finally found the right street, which of course was on the other side of Wm. Floyd, with no street sign. All we had to go on was it was “by 7-11 & before the Smith Point Motel.” But it was fun. We didn’t do too shabby in the beer pong dept. I made Tricia drink for me the last 1.5 hours since I wasn’t even going to risk driving from Mastic to Coram to Ridge, especially since I’m a big fan of taking Whiskey Rd everywhere I possibly can, at all hours of the day/night. She was waaaasted. It was a looooong night of social activity for me.
On Tues, I went to a “Pre-Holiday Grand Opening” of a salon owned by a celebrity stylist in the West Village that I was invited to through STARKED NYC. I’m not going to say much here, but here’s the link for the posting I did on the website about it. I didn’t know if I could bring anyone, so I had told Tricia she couldn’t come. Then, I’m on the subway & I look at the invitation again & see that I can bring a guest. I’m an idiot. I called Julia cause I knew she’d be getting out of work & on her way to the subway to go home & made her come meet me. Bribing people with free booze always works. Anthony met up with us afterwards & we continued all the drinking at some bar, though not for free. I went back to Syosset, since I had been there since Mon night bc of Grandma’s surgery on Tues morning. I stayed there to help take care of her til Wed night. <3
Yesterday, I drove into Brooklyn to straight chill with Julia again. She, Annie Russell & I went to get a Christmas tree for their apartment, which we strapped to the roof of my car. Jules & I put lights & festive/gay red bows on it. After eating almost an entire bag of Swedish Fish in about 4 minutes, we decided it was time to get real food. So she, Annie, another roommate Kevin & I hit up a diner. Anthony, Amanda & Laurie were having a party that I had promised Matt Dunning I’d go to, but it was cold & by the time we finished dinner, it was late. They live on the Upper West Side & it’s an hour subway ride from Brooklyn. That’s not so bad, but I had to work today & couldn’t get home really late. I felt badly, though. We promised Dunning we’d go to Boston before March 1 to make it up to him. So it looks like I’m goin’ to Boston.
So instead of going out like normal 22-year-olds, what did we do? Watch Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire! I’ve been rereading all the books again. The only other movie I’ve seen is the first one, which didn’t do much for me. This one = so good. I got ridiculously into it too. If I were Julia (or even Annie, who probably heard me in her room), I’d definitely have rolled my eyes at the extreme level of nerd that I was emitting. I may or may not have tried warning Cedric Diggory to turn back at the end in a vain attempt to save his life. I also may or may not have squealed when Voldemort came back. Fantaaaaaastic. I got home in an hour, 15 minutes. Great success! The L.I.E. isn’t so bad when there’s no traffic. OH & there’s a Palace Diner in Queens - I feel as though I need to go there just out of principle.
Some P.S.’es:
  • Mean Girls has been on TBS all weekend. So fetch. Holler.
  • The 6th season of Scrubs started last week. Double holler.
  • I’m now obsessed with The Office. Jim is my new crush.

M. Night to Direct Harry P?!

Posted by Colleen on Aug 17, 2006 in Harry Potter, Movies, Ramble/Ponder/Rant

I love it when I find out news a month too late, especially when it’s news that’s just begging for a comment. Apparently M. Night Shyamalan (HA, I only had to look up the spelling of his name THREE times, suckers!), the man behind the awesome Sixth Sense and not-so-awesome Lady in the Water, has been telling everyone who’ll listen that he’s considering directing one of the last two Harry Potter movies. The director claims that he is “haunted” that he passed up the chance to director The Sorcerer’s Stone and if given the chance, he would be the “greatest protector of [the] author’s stuff.”

Now, M. Night doesn’t strike me as the type of director who adheres to necessary little things such as what another author intended the storyline to be. I can see it now: Dumbledore suddenly starts walking around, interacting with Harry, completely unaware that he’s dead. Then in an attempt to keep Death Eaters out of Hogwarts, new Headmaster McGonagall boards up all the windows/doors with some strong ass plywood and gathers all the students in the Great Hall, where everyone gets to conjure up their favorite last meals! And in a “completely unforeseen twist,” we learn that Hogwarts is actually located somewhere in the Dagobah System. Yoda appears and finishes where Dumbledore left off, teaching Harry how to defeat Voldemort using the force (who needs Legilimency & Occlumency nowadays, anyway?). To reward himself for being such a genius, M. Night creates a whole new member of the Order of the Phoenix for himself to play, completely forgoing all of J.K. Rowling’s well-crafted mythology in favor of his own, updated storyline, which he will then try to pass off as “something that happened a long time ago…really…”

This rant has been brought to you by Colleen. Anyone have anything to add? Any M. Night fans in the house who want to tell me I’m overacting slightly?
