Okay, so I got a call from my mom before. Apparently my screw-up bank back on Long Island sent a letter saying that they automatically deducted a fee from my account because I withdrew money from my savings account more than 6 times in one month. I’m a little more than slightly pissed off over this. I just moved to North Carolina five weeks ago. I like to keep my checking account around a certain amount so that I can control my spending and not blow through my savings, particularly now since I do not have a job and I have rent and bills to pay. I think that this is a smart way of handling my money. I know what works best for ME. There’s been a TON of unexpected expenses that have popped up in the last month & a half as I realized there were little and big things here and there I’d need to set up shop in Raleigh. So, yes, I have had to transfer money from my savings account into my checking account a lot more frequently than I did at home.
According to the letter that I was sent, it’s actually a LAW that you can’t withdraw money from your own account more than six times in a month. That’s not exactly one of those things that are drilled into your head by your bank when you open an account. I know that America’s banking system is in need of money right now, but penalizing me for my own personal spending system by stealing taking my hard-earned money out of my bank account is quite frustrating. No offense, but how about the U.S. government and banks learn how to manage their own fucking money first before they start telling me how to manage my own?
Hey Colleen, liking your blogs. Whats your twitter name?
That is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard and I transfer money a ok and am not charged A fee
Who the hell do you bank with? Find a new bank who does not do that. It is rather retarded. Andrew’s had his account stolen twice in the last six months. Someone makes a .01 cent transaction and then just keeps going cause they get away with it. You’d think this would be a red flag for a bank, who the fuck does a one cent transaction???
That is unbelievable banks just look for anyway to nickle and dime you so they have reason to stream your money to themselves since I’ve opened a bank account I have heard so many rules thatbwere not enforced or even muttered to me at the day I began at that bank it’s kinda like the ATM fees they just want our money for pointless commodities.
Check this website out, he has some great advice on how to call your bank and get them to drop fees. He actually provides with some wording to use over the phone. Good luck with this!

(PS: I’m not promoting this guy for personal gain, I just think is website is great and I just got his book and it has tons more helpful info like this about finances)
I got a letter just like that from my bank too last year sometime. I didn’t know I could only transfer money from my savings to other accounts six times a month and they sent me a “courtesy” letter letting me know if I did it again I would be penalized. I was like wtf???? It’s my damn money!!! It just happened to be one of those months and normally I don’t tranfer money like that all that time. So I know exactly how u feel. Not sure how many banks are like that and I am too lazy to change banks. Maybe u will luck out and find a better on in NC.

I’ve been in the process of switching to Bank of America since I lived in Astoria, but because my checking account was still at the Suffolk County National Bank on Long Island, that’s where my direct deposits for work always went – it was just easier. I’m definitely going to be hauling booty now to make the switch more permanent as soon as I get a job down here to have direct deposit into!
Thanks guys
