To Those Who Post Spam Listings on the Raleigh (or any city’s) Craigslist,
I hope you get caught & end up in prison where they sodomize you so badly that you realize that that’s exactly what you’re doing to those who optimistically apply for jobs day in and day out, as though it were our full time job. I hope you someday experience the exact same level of aggravation and false hope that you cause upon innocent job seekers and society in general.
After planning this from October 2008, Jay & Jack’s 25 Hour Marathon Podcast for Autism Speaks was finally this past weekend. It was awesome. We were aiming to raise $10,000 by April 20, but we managed to raise more than $12,000 for Autism Speaks by the end of the 25 hours!
Anyways, we had a lot of fellow podcasters and listeners come to Raleigh to hang out and get us through the entire 25 hours. I really cannot wait for Comic Con 2009 or for next year’s event. Here’s a picture from the end of the 25 hours. We started at 5pm on Saturday and finished up at 6pm Sunday night. Can you say exhausted?
So at about 2pm on Sunday, when we were in the home stretch, Jorge Garcia (Hurley on Lost) came on and kicked ass for 3.5 hours. Except for when I got totally p’wned:
D’oh!
Donations are still coming in, via check to PO Box 40082 Raleigh, NC 27629 (made out to Autism Speaks) or via PayPal, by sending money to the email address LPDonate@gmail.com (we’ll have PayPal send us a check for the final total and then we send that check, along with the other checks, to Autism Speaks).
Thank you to everyone who came in person (I’m sorry if I left anyone out) and everyone who tuned into the live feed, whether it was for 5 minutes, an hour, 12 hours, or all 25 hours. Thanks Jana for keeping the riff-raff out of the chat room. Thanks Chris, Rob, Chris the Bostonian Banhammer, Jessica, Alirio, Sue, Robin, Mandy, Tommy, Michael, Daniel & his wife, Mark & his girlfriend, Allison & her friend, Elizabeth & the man in the Dharmalars shirt whose name escapes me right now (I’m sorry!)
Pictures from this weekend are coming very, very soon but here’s what happened in New York this weekend while I was in NC preparing for the 25 Hour Podcast for Autism Speaks:
I wish very much that I could have been there. My grandparents brought the flowers. They went around to the backyard to greet Strider first, just like he always excitedly ran outside to greet them before any of us when they would come over.
This weekend was incredibly fun and the perfect distraction. But now that it’s over and although I was running on the high from it until about 4pm, I didn’t get a job that I was up for this morning and it totally killed my buzz. Reality has set back in and it’s time to get back to business. Think good thoughts that I get a job soon! And think good thoughts for my little puppy

Went peacefully at 8:24pm in his mommy’s arms
He had the dignity of Strider (Aragorn) but the heart of Samwise Gamgee.
“But when Aragorn arose all that beheld him gazed in silence, for it seemed to them that he was revealed to them now for the first time. Tall as the sea-kings of old, he stood above all that were near: ancient of days he seemed and yet in the flower of manhood; and wisdom sat upon his brow, and strength and healing were in his hands, and a light was about him.”
“Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the Sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-earth. Go in peace! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.”
“And he lived happily ever afterwards to the end of his days.”
I know I asked this question over Twitter last night, but it actually does bug me a bit, so I figured I’d mention it here for good measure:
Why is it that Michael Phelps lost endorsements and has to go on national TV this weekend in order to defend himself for smoking weed at a party but Chris Brown’s album sales have stayed the same and he’s the one who voluntarily dropped out of the Kids’ Choice Awards, even though he beat the crap out of a woman? I think that he was only put on suspension for one of his endorsement deals. I didn’t see Phelps forcing anyone else to smoke up nor did I see him shooting needles into his veins or snorting coke off anyone’s ass. I did, however, see the photo of a bruised and battered woman. But I guess she asked for it, right? So he’s off the hook?
…Right?
Oooohhh, I’m getting in Vagina Monologues mode again. I was out of commission all day yesterday because I was sick and had no energy to get out of bed. I have a ton of stuff to do today since I’m going back to New York tomorrow to see Lauren Graham Lorelei Gilmore in “Guys and Dolls” on Broadway with my sisters.
It’s been a very, very long and busy week since I officially moved in to my apartment here in Raleigh, NC. My days (literally) consist of this: Applying for jobs, hunting for furniture and general apartment stuff, unpacking/setting stuff up, and trying to get un-lost from the places I’m trying to find. I have a video that I am working on that’s from the actual move-in and morning after, but I’ve just been too busy to actually sit down and really put it together.
However, yesterday (March 8 ) was our friend Clif’s 28th birthday. Jay & I had him over for hamburgers and margaritas (since honestly, margaritas are the only thing that we can really make). Friday night (March 6), we went to see “Watchmen” - which I thought was good but very long. I think that my best assessment of the movie is that it must be to Watchmen/comic book fans what the Lord of the Rings trilogy was to the rest of us Tolkien fans/geeks. It was way graphic, even for me, but I liked it a lot anyways. Saturday (March 7) was my sister Katelyn’s 22nd birthday :) I went to garage sales from 7am til 10am, when I met up with Sara, her mom, and sister. Her sister and I tried on our bridesmaid dresses for Sara & TJ’s wedding on September 5. Afterwards, I resumed the cheap furniture hunt (I REALLY freaking need a kitchen table), visited Jay at work, then went for a looooooong ass walk in the 80-degree Raleigh weather.
But more about all of that later. Maybe even a bridesmaid dress picture if I feel like it.
So last night, we had Clif come over for burgers and margaritas to celebrate his 28th birthday.
The king of making margaritas Clif’s birthday drink!
We watched the end of Back to the Future on TV, then Jay & Clif played some video games. After that got old quickly, we were looking for a movie to put on and since Jay hasn’t brought over many of his DVDs yet, it was up to yours truly’s collection of such classics like America’s Sweethearts, Mean Girls, Now and Then, and The Notebook. Even classics like High Fidelity, Anchorman, Dogma and That Thing You Do were vetoed. So finally, Clif just went, “I want to watch Aladdin!”
So we did. And it’s amazing just how much an almost-24-year-old, a 25-year-old, and a 28-year-old can still recite an entire Disney movie. We even still remembered (almost) all the lyrics of the songs.
UPDATE: YouTube and the evil that is a music group I shall not name in case of search engine hits have silenced my previous video because apparently playing a 30-second clip of only music from a song is a violation of copyright laws. And if you’re a douchebag and reported me to YouTube for copyright violation, then I hope that karma comes around to f*ck you in the ass so hard you can’t sit down for the next 4 years. Cause just remember that nobody likes a tattletale, especially over 30 seconds of singing-less music. k thnx bye! Sorry for the less than fabulous quality of this version:
And with that, I must return to the job hunt so that I can then continue with the furniture hunt. Woot. I’d really like it if like $1,000 just fell into my lap right now.
Jay is letting me entertain myself with his blackberry all day as we drive so rather than Twitter updates I’ll do “live” updates this way. I’m going to have fun with this haha
8:20am - starting the first of 8 stored up Smodcasts. No coffee in me yet.
8:42am - Jay is dying of laughter at Smodcast & we have finally made it onto 95 north
9:38am - second of 8 Smodcasts at Jay’s request. I wonder how long til we need a break lol. I need coffee badly.
10:08am - Just crossed the state line into Virginia!
11:07am - we’re watching from the center lane as a little blue Civic from Vermont piss off a big truck in the left lane by boxing him in. WTF is a truck doing tailgating in the left lane anyway?
11:12am - Hello, Richmond!
11:41am - Smodcast #3 begins (Episode 73)
11:51am - Yay!!! Jay is finally ready to stop for caffeine too!!
12:58pm - We couldn’t agree on where to get food so I got subway while Jay got a Baconater from Wendy’s. Lucky me…
1:17pm - Aaaand we’re in Maryland
2:10pm - Just passed thru the tunnel in Baltimore. For some reason my EZ Pass has not worked twice now on this toll but works on all the rest. That potential fine is going to suck ass when added to the $750 it cost to rent this truck lol. Ugh.
2:13pm - Well we are doing okay beating the impending weather but my dad just told us my sister Katelyn’s flight out of Vegas was canceled due to the weather (it’s not snowing yet though). Guess what airline she’s flying? DELTA! Piece of shit airline
2:56pm - Strolling thru Delaware for the next few minutes
3:00pm - “A SEARS OUTLET?! Now I’ve seen everything!” -Jay
3:10pm - We enter New Jersey listening to an eclectic mix of Jeff Buckley & Kanye West, with a little Brendan James, Beyonce & Britney thrown in
4:45pm - Finally in NY! We had a 15 minute detour to (unsuccessfully) find a gas station before we left the 30-cents cheaper NJ which sucks hardcore but I’ll add the higher gas costs to the rest of the arm, leg & first born child this whole move is costing me
5:12pm - Pissed off that it cost me $2.09 for gas in Staten Island vs the $1.71 it was in NJ. I just angrily ate an entire pack of Twizzlers
5:19pm - Verizano Bridge into Brooklyn.
6:00pm - Just passed the exit for Shiro’s (Hibachi) & approaching my grandparents’ exit. Yup we’re on Long Island and 40 minutes from home
6:22pm - Passing the exit on the LIE that goes twds the Media Junkyard. Hi Chris and Rob!!! See ya in 20 days!
6:38pm - Got off the exit. 8 miles to go! And Strider got a bath just for us (and cuz he smelled like dog hospital lol
6:42pm - “Is it bad that I’m seeing bridges on this road?” -Jay
6:46pm - FINALLY HERE!!! 10 hrs 46 minutes & 4 Smodcasts later.
Jay and I are leaving soon (it’s 7:29am to be precise) to drive a uHaul truck up to New York so we can collect the rest of my stuff (furniture, Harry Potter books, etc.) and then come back to North Carolina with said things on Tuesday. Sounds like a party, huh? We’ve got to get out of here before 8am because it’s already snowing north of us on the east coast and the snow’s supposed to hit Raleigh soon too. I can’t believe I’m willing driving a uHaul (well, Jay’s doing the majority of the driving haha) into a “Winter Weather Advisory”. This is going to be fun. I’m sure I’ll take lots of pictures of videos or something.
Meanwhile, here’s two pictures of my (empty) new apartment.
My living room
The kitchen area
I have a den, a bedroom, a bathroom, washer/dryer hookup area, deck, and small dining area. And my walk-in closet is pretty large, with lots of built in shelving already. Yay!
