For the record, I think that J.K. Rowling’s announcement was awesome. Yeah, so what, Dumbledore’s gay? It doesn’t change the story, it doesn’t distract from it (I don’t think so at least), and I think that when people say, “Oh well, it doesn’t matter that he’s gay, what’s the big deal?”, that statement in itself IS the big deal. Time will tell if in the long run, it has an impact on literature or not, or whether or not society can handle a popular, powerful, beloved fictional character being a homosexual. Regardless, I think it’s a very positive message she’s sending to fans. Let’s discuss it, if you are so inclined.
